Employment Discrimination

Workers in New York and New Jersey are protected against discrimination both on a State and Federal level. These laws prohibit discrimination in the workplace on the basis of age, sex, race, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, and a number of other protected categories.

  • Discrimination in the workplace can cause extreme stress, anxiety, affect your job performance, and create a hostile work environment. At Salomon & Baez Law, we are committed to fighting for justice and defending the rights of employees. If you or a loved one have faced discrimination in the workplace, Salomon & Baez Law can help. Call today for a free and confidential case evaluation.

  • Our office also offers risk management services for employers and/or business owners in discrimination lawsuits. We provide our business owner clients with guidance on how to remain compliant with State and Federal laws in an effort to reduce the risk of lawsuits.

  • Workplace discrimination can take many forms, undermining equality and fairness. Below are three areas of employment discrimination that our office can guide you in:

    1. Racial Discrimination
Unfair treatment of employees or job applicants based on race, ethnicity, or skin color. This includes disparities in hiring, promotions, pay, or access to opportunities. Racial discrimination can manifest through overt actions or systemic practices, such as excluding individuals from specific roles or subjecting them to a hostile work environment due to their race.

    2. Sexual Harassment
A form of gender-based discrimination involving unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. Sexual harassment creates a hostile or intimidating work environment, affecting an individual's ability to perform their job. This behavior may include inappropriate comments, jokes, or physical actions that target someone based on their gender.

    3. Disability Discrimination
Treating individuals unfavorably due to a physical or mental disability. This includes failing to provide reasonable accommodations that enable employees to perform their jobs effectively or excluding them from opportunities based on their disability. Disability discrimination can occur in hiring, workplace practices, or lack of accessibility in the work environment.

Workplace Retaliation

  • Workplace retaliation occurs when an employer takes adverse action against an employee for engaging in legally protected activities, such as reporting discrimination, harassment, or unsafe working conditions. Retaliation can include wrongful termination, demotion, reduced hours, or other forms of punishment.

At Salomon & Baez Law, we represent employees who have been victims of workplace retaliation, helping them seek justice and hold employers accountable.
